What is yoga therapy?

Yoga therapy is a holistic approach to healing and well-being that combines the principles and practices of yoga with modern therapeutic techniques. It is an integrative form of therapy that addresses the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of a person's health.

Yoga therapy involves the use of various yoga techniques, including physical postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation, relaxation techniques, and mindfulness practices. These practices are tailored to meet the individual needs of the person receiving therapy. The goal of yoga therapy is to promote self-awareness, balance, and integration of the body, mind, and spirit.

Yoga therapy is different from a regular yoga class in that it is typically conducted on a one-on-one basis or in small groups, allowing for personalized attention and guidance. A qualified yoga therapist assesses the client's specific condition, such as physical injuries, chronic illnesses, mental health issues, or emotional imbalances, and designs a customized yoga practice to address their unique needs.

Yoga therapy has been found to be beneficial for a wide range of conditions, including stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), cardiovascular diseases, respiratory disorders, and musculoskeletal issues. It can also complement traditional medical treatments and therapies.

Yoga therapy is often conducted by certified yoga therapists who have undergone specialized training beyond the standard yoga teacher training. These therapists may have a background in healthcare professions such as physical therapy, psychology, or nursing, allowing them to integrate their knowledge of both yoga and modern medical science.

It's important to note that yoga therapy should be practiced under the guidance of a qualified professional. If you're interested in exploring yoga therapy, contact me and we can discuss your needs.

Warmly,

Kim
